SaaS & Modernization

Multi-Tenant SaaS Built Right

We design the tenancy layer of your SaaS product: how customers are isolated, configured and billed on a shared platform that stays maintainable as it grows.

Overview

Multi-Tenant SaaS Development

Multi-tenancy is the architectural decision that shapes everything else in a SaaS product: cost per customer, security boundaries, upgrade speed and how far each customer can customize. Codemotives helps you choose between shared schema, schema-per-tenant and database-per-tenant models based on your customers, data sensitivity and operating budget rather than on habit.

Once the model is chosen, we build the pieces around it: tenant-aware authentication and authorization, per-tenant settings and feature flags, usage metering, subscription billing hooks and an admin console for support teams. The result is a platform where onboarding a new customer is a configuration task, not a deployment project.

Context

Problems we solve

  • 01

    Data leaking between tenants

A single missing filter can expose one customer's records to another. Isolation has to be enforced in the data layer, not left to every developer to remember.

  • 02

    Noisy neighbor performance

One heavy customer can slow everyone down on shared infrastructure. Limits, queues and resource isolation need to be designed in early.

  • 03

    Customization without forks

Enterprise customers ask for custom behavior. Without a configuration model, this turns into branches that are painful to maintain.

  • 04

    Billing and metering complexity

Plans, seats, usage tiers and trials multiply quickly. Billing logic scattered through the code becomes hard to change.

Capabilities

What we deliver

  1. 01

    Tenancy model selection

We compare shared, schema-per-tenant and database-per-tenant options against your security, scale and cost needs, and document the trade-offs.

  2. 02

    Tenant-aware data layer

Row-level security, scoped queries and tenant context middleware so isolation is enforced consistently across the application.

  3. 03

    Per-tenant configuration

Settings, branding, feature flags and role models that vary by customer without branching the codebase.

  4. 04

    Subscription and usage billing

Plan management, metering and integration with a payment provider, designed so pricing changes do not require rewrites.

  5. 05

    Tenant lifecycle automation

Automated onboarding, data export, suspension and offboarding so operations do not rely on manual scripts.

  6. 06

    Operational tooling

Admin consoles, per-tenant logging and impersonation with audit trails, so support can resolve issues safely.

Where it fits

  • B2B platforms serving many separate customer organizations
  • White-label products resold under partner brands
  • Vertical SaaS for clinics, schools or agencies
  • Turning a single-customer app into a product
  • Enterprise tiers needing dedicated databases

Technologies we use

  • PostgreSQL
  • Node.js
  • Laravel
  • Django
  • Redis
  • Stripe
  • Kubernetes
  • AWS

Approach

How we deliver

  1. 1

    Discover

We learn your goals, users, constraints and existing systems before proposing anything.

  2. 2

    Plan

Scope, priorities, architecture and milestones are agreed so everyone knows what ships when.

  3. 3

    Design

User flows, interfaces and technical design are shaped and reviewed with you early.

  4. 4

    Build

Work is delivered in short iterations with regular demos, so progress is always visible.

  5. 5

    Test

Functional, integration and performance checks run throughout, not only at the end.

  6. 6

    Launch & support

We deploy, monitor and keep improving the product after it goes live.

FAQs

Common questions

Have a question that is not covered here? Get in touch.

Which tenancy model should we pick?

It depends on how sensitive the data is, how many tenants you expect and how much customization they need. Shared schemas are cheapest to run, while database-per-tenant gives stronger isolation at higher operating cost. Many products start shared and offer dedicated databases to larger customers.

Can you convert our existing single-tenant app?

Often yes, but it depends on how the data and authentication are structured. We review the codebase first and propose either an incremental conversion or a rebuild of the tenancy layer. Retrofitting is usually harder than designing it in, so we are upfront about the effort.

How do you test tenant isolation?

We write automated tests that try to read and write across tenant boundaries, and we review queries and background jobs for missing tenant scoping. Isolation is also checked at the database level where the platform supports it.

What affects the cost and timeline?

The tenancy model, number of integrations, billing complexity and how much customization each tenant needs are the main drivers. Compliance requirements and data residency can add further work. We scope these during discovery.
