Website Security and Hardening

Practical website security: review the risks, close the common gaps, and set up backups and monitoring so incidents are caught and recoverable.

Overview

Website Security

Most website compromises come from ordinary causes: outdated plugins, weak or shared passwords, exposed admin areas, vulnerable custom code and poorly configured hosting. Codemotives starts with a review of your stack to find those gaps, then fixes them in priority order and documents what changed. Each fix is explained in plain language so your team understands the reason for it.

We also help after something has gone wrong, cleaning hacked sites and closing the entry point so it does not recur. No site can be made impossible to attack, and we do not promise that. What we can do is reduce exposure, improve detection and ensure you can restore quickly. Formal penetration testing is a separate service.

Context

Problems we solve

  • 01

    Outdated software

Unpatched CMS cores, themes and plugins are a common way sites get compromised. We set up safe update routines.

  • 02

    Weak access controls

Shared admin accounts and weak passwords invite takeover. We enforce roles, strong authentication and least privilege.

  • 03

    Malware and defacement

Compromised sites harm visitors and search visibility. We clean, find the entry point and harden.

  • 04

    No recovery plan

Without tested backups, incidents become disasters. We set up offsite backups and test restores.

Capabilities

What we deliver

  1. 01

    Security review

We assess hosting, CMS, plugins, custom code and configuration against common web risks such as the OWASP web risk list.

  2. 02

    Hardening

Secure headers, HTTPS, file permissions, login protection and admin lockdown.

  3. 03

    WAF and bot protection

Web application firewall and rate limiting through services like Cloudflare.

  4. 04

    Malware cleanup

Detect and remove malicious code, then close the original vulnerability.

  5. 05

    Backups and recovery

Automated offsite backups with documented and tested restore steps.

  6. 06

    Monitoring and updates

Uptime, file-change and vulnerability monitoring with managed patching.

Where it fits

  • Hacked WordPress site recovery
  • Pre-launch security hardening
  • Securing a high-traffic ecommerce site
  • Login and form abuse protection
  • Regular patching for small businesses

Technologies we use

  • Cloudflare
  • OWASP ZAP
  • Wordfence

  • AWS WAF

Approach

How we deliver

  1. 1

    Discover

We learn your goals, users, constraints and existing systems before proposing anything.

  2. 2

    Plan

Scope, priorities, architecture and milestones are agreed so everyone knows what ships when.

  3. 3

    Design

User flows, interfaces and technical design are shaped and reviewed with you early.

  4. 4

    Build

Work is delivered in short iterations with regular demos, so progress is always visible.

  5. 5

    Test

Functional, integration and performance checks run throughout, not only at the end.

FAQs

Common questions

Have a question that is not covered here? Get in touch.

Is this the same as penetration testing?

No. This service hardens and monitors your site. Penetration testing is a deeper, adversarial assessment, which Codemotives offers separately as security testing.

Can you promise our site will not be hacked?

No one honestly can. We reduce likelihood and impact, and make sure you can detect and recover from incidents.

Do you fix already-hacked sites?

Yes. We clean the site, identify how attackers got in and close that route. A full rebuild is sometimes the safer option and we will say so.
