Backend

Ruby on Rails, Shipped Fast

We build Ruby on Rails applications for teams that want to get a product in front of users quickly, and we upgrade older Rails apps without stalling the business.

Overview

Ruby on Rails

Ruby on Rails is a full-stack web framework built on convention over configuration. Active Record, migrations, mailers, background job integration, Hotwire for interactive interfaces and a strong testing culture let small teams deliver a lot of functionality in a short time. It is a common choice for startups, marketplaces and subscription products that expect to change quickly.

We build new Rails applications and APIs with clear domain models, service objects where logic outgrows controllers, and RSpec or Minitest coverage. For existing apps, we focus on upgrades: Rails has regular major releases, and older versions lose security support, so we step through versions, update gems and Ruby, and fix performance issues like N+1 queries along the way.

Context

Why teams choose it

  • 01

    Fast product delivery

Conventions and generators let teams go from idea to working software quickly.

  • 02

    Everything included

ORM, routing, mailers, jobs and asset handling work together out of the box.

  • 03

    Mature gem ecosystem

Libraries for auth, payments, admin and search cover many common needs.

  • 04

    Test-driven culture

The community's emphasis on testing helps keep fast-moving codebases stable.

Capabilities

What we build with it

  1. 01

    New Rails applications

MVPs and full products with Hotwire or a separate JavaScript frontend.

  2. 02

    API-only Rails

JSON APIs with serializers, token auth and versioning for mobile and SPA clients.

  3. 03

    Rails and Ruby upgrades

Version-by-version upgrades with gem updates and deprecation fixes.

  4. 04

    Background jobs

Sidekiq or Active Job pipelines for emails, imports and integrations.

  5. 05

    Performance work

Query optimization, caching, indexing and memory profiling.

  6. 06

    Maintenance and rescue

Taking over neglected Rails apps and bringing them back to a healthy state.

Approach

How we work with it

  1. 1

    Assess

We review your goals and any existing code to decide where this technology fits best.

  2. 2

    Architect

We plan structure, integrations, data flow and hosting before writing production code.

  3. 3

    Build

Features ship in small, reviewed increments with automated checks along the way.

  4. 4

    Release & maintain

We deploy, monitor and keep dependencies and versions up to date.

FAQs

Common questions

Have a question that is not covered here? Get in touch.

Is Ruby on Rails still relevant?

Yes. Rails remains actively developed and is widely used for products that value fast delivery and maintainable conventions. Its strengths are most visible in product-focused web applications.

How do you upgrade an old Rails app?

We go through major versions one at a time, update Ruby and gems, fix deprecations and run the test suite at every step. If tests are thin, we add coverage around critical flows first.

Can Rails scale?

It can when built properly. Caching, background jobs, database indexing and horizontal scaling are standard tools. Most scaling pain comes from queries and architecture, not the framework itself.

Rails or Django?

They are similar in philosophy. Rails often fits product teams that already know Ruby, while Django is natural if you are invested in Python or data and ML work.
