Recommendations That Fit People
We build recommendation systems that suggest relevant products, content or actions, and we test them against real behavior rather than assumptions.
Overview
Recommendation Engine Development
A recommendation engine is a ranking problem shaped by business goals. Showing popular items is easy; showing the right item to a new visitor, or surfacing the long tail without annoying people, is harder. Codemotives starts with simple baselines such as popularity and recent activity, then adds collaborative filtering, content-based signals or learned ranking models only where they measurably improve results.
Evaluation matters because offline scores often disagree with real outcomes. We set up controlled online tests, watch for effects such as filter bubbles and over-promoting a few items, and design for cold start, where new users or products have no history. Privacy is part of the design: we use behavioral data in line with your consent and data-protection obligations.
Context
Problems we solve
- 01
Cold start
New users and items have no history. Fallback strategies and content signals fill the gap.
- 02
Offline versus real results
A model that scores well on past data may not change behavior. Live experiments are the real test.
- 03
Narrow or repetitive output
Systems can trap users in a loop of similar items. Diversity and exploration need deliberate design.
- 04
Behavioral data and consent
Tracking used for personalization must respect consent choices and applicable privacy rules.
Capabilities
What we deliver
- 01
Baseline and goal setting
Defining what better looks like, whether engagement, conversion or discovery, and measuring simple baselines first.
- 02
Collaborative and content models
Methods based on user behavior, item attributes or both, chosen by data availability.
- 03
Ranking and re-ranking
Business rules such as stock, margin or freshness layered over model scores.
- 04
Real-time serving
Low-latency APIs and caching so suggestions appear instantly in pages and apps.
- 05
A/B testing setup
Experiment infrastructure and reporting to compare variants on real behavior.
- 06
Explainability and controls
Reasons shown to users where helpful, plus admin tools for pinning or excluding items.

Approach
How we deliver
- 1
Discover
We learn your goals, users, constraints and existing systems before proposing anything.
- 2
Plan
Scope, priorities, architecture and milestones are agreed so everyone knows what ships when.
- 3
Design
User flows, interfaces and technical design are shaped and reviewed with you early.
- 4
Build
Work is delivered in short iterations with regular demos, so progress is always visible.
- 5
Test
Functional, integration and performance checks run throughout, not only at the end.
- 6
Launch & support
We deploy, monitor and keep improving the product after it goes live.
FAQs
Common questions
Have a question that is not covered here? Get in touch.
How much data do we need before this works?
Collaborative methods need enough interaction history to find patterns. With less data, content-based or rules-based approaches usually perform better, and we can start there and evolve as data grows.
How do you know the recommendations help?
We run controlled tests comparing the engine with a baseline on outcomes you care about. Clicks alone can mislead, so we also look at downstream results such as purchases or return visits.
Is personalization a privacy risk?
It can be if handled carelessly. We design around consent, minimize the data used and support deletion requests, in line with regulations such as GDPR where they apply to you.
