Lightweight CodeIgniter Builds
We build and maintain CodeIgniter applications for teams that want a small, fast PHP framework, and we handle the move from CodeIgniter 3 to 4 when it is time.
Overview
CodeIgniter
CodeIgniter is a compact PHP framework known for a small footprint, simple configuration and quick request handling. It follows an MVC pattern without demanding heavy tooling, which makes it approachable for small teams and for projects that run on modest hosting. That makes it a practical choice for internal tools, small portals and simple APIs.
Version 4 is a significant rewrite of version 3, with namespaces, a modern HTTP layer, Composer-based installs and a different directory layout. We build new projects on CodeIgniter 4 and plan upgrades from older codebases carefully, since they are closer to a migration than a simple update. Tests and clear separation of concerns keep either path manageable.
Context
Why teams choose it
- 01
Small footprint
A lean core means low overhead and quick responses, even on modest servers.
- 02
Gentle learning curve
Straightforward conventions and good documentation make it easy for developers to become productive.
- 03
Minimal configuration
You can start building quickly without a long setup or heavy dependencies.
- 04
Good for focused apps
Admin tools, small portals and APIs fit the framework's scale well.
Capabilities

CI3 to CI4 migration
Planned moves from CodeIgniter 3, including restructuring controllers, models and routing.
- 03
REST API development
Resource controllers, token authentication and validated JSON responses.
- 04
Legacy maintenance
Bug fixes, security patches and PHP version compatibility work on existing CI3 sites.
- 05
Performance tuning
Query review, caching and trimmed autoloading to keep pages fast.

FAQs
Common questions
Have a question that is not covered here? Get in touch.
Can we upgrade from CodeIgniter 3 to 4 directly?
There is no drop-in upgrade, because version 4 changed namespaces, folder layout and many APIs. We treat it as a staged migration, moving components over and testing as we go.
Is CodeIgniter 3 still safe to run?
CodeIgniter 3 is in maintenance and has been overtaken by version 4, and it can be awkward on recent PHP releases. We can keep it patched for a while, but we recommend planning a migration.
Should a new project use CodeIgniter or Laravel?
CodeIgniter suits small, simple applications where footprint matters. For larger products that need queues, an ORM and a broad ecosystem, Laravel is usually the stronger choice.
Can CodeIgniter handle APIs?
Yes. CodeIgniter 4 includes resource routes and API-friendly response handling, and we add token authentication and validation as needed.
