CakePHP Development With Convention
We build and modernize CakePHP applications, using the framework's conventions to deliver maintainable PHP and to bring older versions up to supported releases.
Overview
CakePHP
CakePHP is a mature MVC framework for PHP built on convention over configuration. Its ORM, bake code generator, built-in validation, authentication and authorization plugins and strong security defaults let teams build CRUD-heavy business applications quickly with predictable structure. It remains a sensible choice for teams that already have CakePHP code and want stability rather than a rewrite.
We use CakePHP's conventions for naming, associations and templates so that code stays consistent across developers. We also handle upgrades, which matter because major versions change APIs: we plan stepwise moves toward current releases using the official upgrade tooling, along with PHP version bumps and test coverage to catch regressions along the way.
Context
Why teams choose it
- 01
Convention over configuration
Predictable naming and structure reduce boilerplate and make codebases easier to read.
- 02
Rapid CRUD development
Bake generates controllers, models and views, which speeds up data-driven screens.
- 03
Built-in security
CSRF protection, input validation and query escaping come as part of the framework.
- 04
Stable and established
Long-lived releases and clear upgrade paths suit applications that need to run for years.
Capabilities
What we build with it
- 01
New CakePHP builds
Business applications on current CakePHP with clean ORM usage and templating.
- 02
Version upgrades
Stepwise migration from older CakePHP releases to supported versions, using upgrade tools and tests.
- 03
REST APIs
JSON APIs with routing, serialization and token-based authentication.
- 04
Legacy maintenance
Fixes, security updates and PHP compatibility work for existing CakePHP sites.
- 05
Plugin development
Reusable plugins to share logic across applications.
- 06
Performance review
Query, association and caching improvements for slow pages.

Approach
How we work with it
- 1
Assess
We review your goals and any existing code to decide where this technology fits best.
- 2
Architect
We plan structure, integrations, data flow and hosting before writing production code.
- 3
Build
Features ship in small, reviewed increments with automated checks along the way.
- 4
Release & maintain
We deploy, monitor and keep dependencies and versions up to date.
FAQs
Common questions
Have a question that is not covered here? Get in touch.
How hard is it to upgrade an old CakePHP application?
It depends on the starting version and customization. CakePHP 2 to a current release is a large change, while later versions have official upgrade guides and tools. We upgrade in stages with tests.
Is CakePHP still actively maintained?
Yes, it continues to receive releases. We recommend running a supported major version on a supported PHP release for security fixes.
CakePHP or Laravel for a new project?
Both are capable. Laravel has a larger ecosystem and community, while CakePHP offers strong conventions and fast scaffolding. If your team already knows CakePHP, staying with it is reasonable.
Can you take over a CakePHP app we did not build?
Yes. We review code, dependencies and the database first, then stabilize with tests and fixes before adding features or upgrading.
