Move Apps, Keep Running

We move individual applications and their data to a new platform, host or version, testing carefully so users see continuity rather than disruption.

Overview

Application Migration

Application migration is focused on a single application and its surroundings: its runtime, database, files, scheduled jobs, integrations and configuration. The target might be a new server, a different hosting provider, a newer platform version or a managed service. The key question is how to move it while preserving behavior.

We begin by documenting how the application runs today, including undocumented cron jobs and settings that tend to cause surprises. Then we prepare the target, migrate data, run the application in parallel and test thoroughly before switching traffic. Where compatibility problems appear, we make minimal changes to the application rather than reworking it.

Context

Problems we solve

  • 01

    Undocumented configuration

Hidden settings, scheduled tasks and manual steps are easy to miss and break after the move.

  • 02

    Version incompatibility

Moving to a newer runtime or database can expose features that no longer behave the same way.

  • 03

    Data integrity

Records, files and user accounts must arrive complete and consistent.

Capabilities

What we deliver

  1. 01

    Application discovery

We document runtime, dependencies, jobs, integrations and configuration before touching anything.

  2. 02

    Target environment setup

The new hosting platform is prepared and configured to match or improve on the old one.

  3. 03

    Data migration

Databases and files are transferred and verified, with a plan for changes made during the move.

  4. 04

    Compatibility fixes

We resolve version and dependency issues with minimal changes to the application code.

  5. 05

    Parallel testing

The migrated application runs alongside the original so results can be compared before cutover.

  6. 06

    Cutover and rollback

Traffic is switched on a planned schedule, with the previous environment kept ready if needed.

Where it fits

  • Moving a CRM or portal to new hosting
  • Upgrading a framework version with a platform move
  • Shifting a database to a managed service
  • Leaving a shared host for dedicated infrastructure
  • Relocating an app after an acquisition

Technologies we use

  • Docker
  • AWS
  • Microsoft Azure
  • MySQL
  • PostgreSQL
  • SQL Server
  • Linux
  • Terraform

Approach

How we deliver

  1. 1

    Discover

We learn your goals, users, constraints and existing systems before proposing anything.

  2. 2

    Plan

Scope, priorities, architecture and milestones are agreed so everyone knows what ships when.

  3. 3

    Design

User flows, interfaces and technical design are shaped and reviewed with you early.

  4. 4

    Build

Work is delivered in short iterations with regular demos, so progress is always visible.

  5. 5

    Test

Functional, integration and performance checks run throughout, not only at the end.

  6. 6

    Launch & support

We deploy, monitor and keep improving the product after it goes live.

FAQs

Common questions

Have a question that is not covered here? Get in touch.

What is the difference between application and cloud migration?

Application migration centers on one application and what it needs to run elsewhere. Cloud migration looks at the wider estate of servers and workloads, while application migration can target any environment, cloud or not.

Do you change the application code?

Only as much as needed for it to run correctly in the new environment. If you want deeper changes to the design or code, that is application modernization, and we can plan it as a separate step.

What affects how long a migration takes?

The amount of data, number of integrations, how well the current setup is documented and how much downtime is acceptable. Discovery work upfront makes the schedule much more reliable.
